Outdoor Adventure FAQs
Getting Started
-
Throttle RX is a family-owned outdoor adventure company located at 7460 Main St in Danbury, WI, about 1.5 to 2 hours northeast of the Twin Cities. We offer UTV, ATV, jet ski, pontoon, fishing boat, and paddleboard adventures on the water and trails of northwestern Wisconsin. In winter, we offer snowmobile adventures when Burnett County trail conditions allow. Whether you’re planning a day trip from Minneapolis or staying the weekend at a nearby cabin, we have an adventure for every type of outdoor enthusiast.
Most of our off-road vehicles come equipped with Polaris Ride Command. Please download the Polaris app on your phone before arriving in case your vehicle is not already equipped with it. The app can be downloaded below.
-
We offer the latest Polaris has to offer and refresh our fleet every one to two years. Our current lineup includes the Polaris RZR XP Pro Ultimate, General XP 1000, and Xpedition XP5 Northstar. Most vehicles come equipped with Polaris Ride Command — we recommend downloading the Polaris app before you arrive.
-
Our fleet is refreshed every one to two years so you are always riding in a modern, up-to-date machine. Every vehicle in our fleet is meticulously maintained on site by certified mechanics. You can expect clean, well-functioning equipment every time.
-
The public trail system runs right through our property and can lead you out to Minnesota or Wisconsin where you’ll have access to thousands of miles of trails. Grab your family and friends, bring a cooler, and tents and make it a multi day adventure or plan your adventure with some of our amazing local lodging options.
-
We have Sea-Doo jet skis and a selection of fishing boats including a Tracker Classic XL and an Alumacraft. We are also bringing in a brand new pontoon fleet this season from a well-known manufacturer — stay tuned for details. Each watercraft is chosen for performance, comfort, and reliability on the water.
-
Absolutely. All experience levels are welcome. Our team will walk you through everything you need to know before you head out, and our guided UTV tours are a great option if it’s your first time on the trails.
-
1.5 to 2 hours northeast of the Twin Cities depending on where you’re coming from — close enough for a day trip and worth every mile. Many of our guests pair their adventure with a stay at one of the nearby cabins, Airbnbs, or resorts to make a full weekend out of it. Check out our Danbury lodging page for options right in the area.
-
We are open 7 days a week from 9am to 6pm.
-
Every season brings something different. Summer is peak season for UTVs, ATVs, jet skis, pontoons, fishing boats, and paddleboards. Water adventures are available from around May through September or October depending on conditions. Fall brings stunning color on the trails and cooler riding weather. Winter opens snowmobile season when Burnett County trails reach at least 4 inches of packed snow. Spring is a great time to beat the crowds and get out on the water or trails early.
Planning Your Trip
-
The public trail system runs directly through our property, connecting you to thousands of miles of trails across Burnett, Washburn, and Douglas counties and into Minnesota. You can access everything from groomed gravel paths to deep forest routes and muddy backcountry terrain — all without crossing a road to get started. Many of our guests find themselves exploring neighboring counties, so we recommend using the Polaris Ride Command app or OnX Off-Road to track where you are and where you’re headed.
-
Danbury sits in the heart of Burnett County, which is home to hundreds of lakes. Burnett County alone has over 200 lakes, many with public boat landings. Not all lakes permit jet skis, and access varies by lake, so we will go over the specifics with you at check-in based on what you are renting. This year we do not have a dedicated dock, so guests will be responsible for hauling watercraft to the lake — we can arrange delivery for a fee based on your destination. Call us at 715-227-3004 to discuss delivery pricing.
-
Most of our machines have Polaris Ride Command built in. We also recommend downloading the OnX Off-Road app as a backup. Paper maps are available at our location as well.
-
Our trails are a mix of gravel, sand, and mud with connecting roadways in between. Conditions vary based on recent weather — after rain they can be very wet and muddy, and during dry stretches they will be dusty and sandy. Check current Burnett County trail conditions at burnettcountywi.gov before you arrive as they are updated daily.
-
Depends on the weather and how much fun you want to have. You can stay relatively clean by slowing down through the wet spots — or you can hit every mud hole you find and see how dirty you can get. Either way, bring a change of clothes.
-
We recommend a 4-hour experience for first-timers. It gives you enough time to get comfortable, explore the trails, and really enjoy yourself without feeling rushed — and most people are already planning their next visit before they even return.
-

Who Can Participate
-
You must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s license. If you were born on or after January 1, 1988, you are also required to have a Wisconsin ATV/UTV safety certification before you can drive. This is not optional — you cannot get behind the wheel without it, and the course takes approximately 3 hours to complete, so do not wait until the day of your adventure. Complete your certification at offroad-ed.com/wisconsin before your trip. Drivers ages 18 to 20 must be accompanied by the person who made the reservation, who must be 21 or older and is fully responsible for the vehicle.
-
Wisconsin requires a boating safety certification for operators born on or after January 1, 1989. No one under 18 is permitted to operate a boat at any time. Complete your certification at boat-ed.com/wisconsin before your trip.

You must be 18 or older to operate a jet ski. Wisconsin boating safety certification is required for those born on or after January 1, 1989. Complete yours at boat-ed.com/wisconsin before your trip.
-
Children are welcome as passengers as long as their feet rest flat on the floor while sitting properly in the seat with their back against the seat — approximately 46 inches tall is the general guideline. No one under 18 is permitted to drive under any circumstances. Please note that car seats cannot be used in a UTV under any circumstances. Young children whose necks are not fully developed should not be in a UTV, as wearing a helmet at that stage of development can cause injury rather than prevent it.
-
Yes, children are welcome aboard as passengers. Life jackets are required for all passengers 12 and under per Wisconsin state law and are provided.
-
Yes, as long as they meet our age and certification requirements and have completed their waiver before getting behind the wheel. Anyone who drives without a completed waiver makes the reservation holder fully liable for 100% of all damages, injuries, and lost rentals resulting from negligence of the waiver terms.
-

Pricing, Booking & Deposits
-
A damage deposit of up to $3,000 is placed as a soft hold on your bank or credit card at check-in. A soft hold means the funds are reserved but not actually charged — if everything comes back the same way it left, the hold is released and no money is taken. An optional reduced damage waiver deposit of $1,500 is available at checkout.
-
At check-in we place a soft hold on your credit card — this reserves the funds but does not charge you. Multiple cards can be used if needed, so check your daily transaction limit ahead of time. After your adventure, if there is no damage we will release the hold. Please note that holds can take up to 7 business days to clear depending on your bank. You will receive an email shortly after booking with a link to complete your waiver — please complete it before your arrival to avoid any delays getting out on the trails or water.
-
Yes — we offer 15% off for active and inactive military, nurses, doctors, and first responders. Just show us your card or badge when you arrive. Thank you for your service.
-
Cancellations made with 7 or more days notice receive a full refund, credit, or rebooking. To cancel, contact us by message, text, or email. No-shows will be charged the full price. We go out rain or shine, snow or shine — so come prepared for the weather and plan to have a great time regardless.
-
Late returns are charged as follows: 10 minutes to 1 hour late is a flat $100 fee. Beyond 1 hour, an additional $100 per hour applies. If your late return causes another guest to lose their reserved adventure, you will also be charged for their booking.
-
Yes. Gift cards are available in any amount with no expiration date — the perfect gift for anyone who loves the outdoors.
Day of Your Adventure
-
Wear weather-appropriate clothes that can get muddy or wet and bring a change of clothes for the ride home. Gloves are optional but nice to have. Pack a cooler with non-alcoholic drinks and snacks, and bring a car charger for your phones and cameras — the UTV has a cigarette lighter port, and a USB port if equipped with Ride Command. Helmets and goggles are provided and required. If you have your own DOT-approved full-face helmet and eye protection you are welcome to bring them — pedal bike helmets and skully-style helmets are not permitted.
-
Sunscreen, sunglasses, layers for wind on the water, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks. Life jackets are provided. For fishing, the Tracker Classic XL comes equipped with a fish finder and all required safety gear. If you need fishing poles and tackle, we have some available to rent. Bait can be purchased next door at the Log Cabin Store — so no need to worry about finding it before you arrive.
-
Water shoes or sandals, sunscreen, a change of clothes, towels, and a dry bag for your phone and valuables. Life jackets are provided. We also strongly encourage guests to wear neoprene shorts for added comfort on the water.
-
Water shoes, sunscreen, and clothes you don’t mind getting wet. Life jackets are provided. A dry bag for your phone is a great idea.
-
Helmets are required at all times while the vehicle is in motion. By signing the waiver you are agreeing that all riders will wear helmets throughout the entire adventure. Helmets that show wear from being left loose — scuffs, scratches, or damage from bouncing around unrestrained in the cab — will be charged against your deposit.
-
Yes. Life jackets are included with all jet ski, pontoon, and fishing boat experiences. Children 12 and under are required by Wisconsin state law to wear a life jacket at all times on the water.
-
We will estimate repair costs and charge only that amount from your deposit — not to exceed the deposit amount provided you have not violated your waiver terms. Additional charges may apply for loss of usage of the unit for up to 14 days.
-
If anyone has serious injuries, please call 9-1-1 immediately then call us immediately at 715-227-3004. This is important — please do not return the vehicle without letting us know first. We will help upright the machine, assess the situation, and get you back safely. When guests do not report a tip or rollover, it creates disputes over damage that are difficult to resolve for everyone. The damage deposit will be held until we can fully assess the extent of damage, which may take several days. Additional charges may apply for lost rental usage for up to 14 days, vehicle recovery, DNR fines, or other violations.
Fishing

Burnett County is an exceptional multi-species fishery. You can expect to find walleye, muskie, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and panfish across the area lakes. Burnett County is also home to the Wisconsin state record hook-and-line lake sturgeon. Whether you’re after a trophy fish or just a relaxing day on the water, the fishing here delivers.
-
Our Tracker Classic XL fishing boat comes equipped with a fish finder and all required safety gear. Fishing poles and tackle are available to rent if you need them. Bait can be purchased right next door at the Log Cabin Store — it does not get more convenient than that.
-
Our Tracker Classic XL comes with a fish finder. Our Alumacraft is a standard boat and does not include a fish finder. Both come with all required safety gear including life jackets and lights.
Snowmobile Adventures
-
Yes. We offer snowmobile adventures seasonally when Burnett County trail conditions allow. Trails open when there is a minimum of 4 inches of packed snow and conditions are deemed safe. Follow current trail conditions at burnettcountywi.gov.
-
Season timing depends entirely on snowfall and county trail conditions. Burnett County trails open when packed snow reaches at least 4 inches and close when conditions deteriorate. Check burnettcountywi.gov for current updates before planning your trip.
-
Dress in warm, windproof layers — a thermal base layer, insulated mid-layer, and waterproof outer shell. Warm gloves, wool or thermal socks, and waterproof boots are essential. We have a limited supply of snow jackets, bibs, boots, and balaclavas available to rent in select sizes if you need them. Our helmets are heated.
